The Very Reverend Dr. Peter Catt

As Dean of St. John's Cathedral in Brisbane, Dr. Peter Catt embodies a fascinating intersection of scientific inquiry and spiritual leadership. His remarkable journey began in the laboratories of the University of NSW, where he earned his PhD studying the intricate dance of evolutionary microbiology, before answering a deeper calling to religious ministry and theological studies at the Melbourne College of Divinity. During his decade as Dean of Grafton (1997-2007), Dr. Catt pioneered groundbreaking conversations between faith and reason by establishing the International Philosophy, Science and Theology Festival. This innovative gathering brought together great minds to explore the profound questions that lie at the crossroads of human understanding. Today, his work spans multiple dimensions of modern spirituality and social justice. He brings fresh energy to ancient traditions through liturgical innovation, while delving into the rich waters of Narrative Theology and Christian Formation. Yet Dr. Catt's influence extends far beyond cathedral walls—he stands as a powerful voice for environmental stewardship and human rights, serving on Anglican Social Justice Committees at both Diocesan and National levels. As chair of The Australian Churches Refugee Taskforce, he works tirelessly to transform compassion into action for those seeking sanctuary. His unique blend of scientific rigor and spiritual wisdom makes him a compelling figure in contemporary religious discourse, bridging gaps between seemingly disparate worlds and demonstrating how faith and reason can work together to address humanity's greatest challenges.
