The work of throwing the vector of one's own emotions into the heart of another person, and the work of "surveying" a disorderly land, maybe infinitely similar. Yamanaka, an aspiring novelist, moves into the lodgings of his friend Nagai. Nagai's younger sister, Yae, also comes to Tokyo, and the three of them have three different vectors to throw.
