Rafael Maino

Rafael Maino is an Argentine experimental filmmaker whose work, primarily shot on Super 8, remains largely unknown. Having appeared in several films by Narcisa Hirsch, he developed his own body of work, which was rarely publicly screened. His short film Water Water (1975) received an honorable mention in a Goethe-Institut competition, while some of his films were made clandestinely during Argentina's last military dictatorship. Through an intimate and deeply personal gaze, his cinema explores desire and homoeroticism, challenging the censorship and conventions of its time. A pioneering figure in Argentine queer cinema.
